§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will list those treaties to which the United Kingdom has agreed which prohibit the development of directed energy weapons in space.
§ Mr. RentonThe United Kingdom is party to the 1963 treaty banning nuclear weapon tests in the atmosphere, in outer space and under water, and the 1967 treaty on principles governing the activities of states in the exploration and use of outer space, including the moon and other celestial bodies. Neither of these treaties prohibits the development of directed energy weapons in space.
