§ Mr. Cashasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what maximum precepts he proposes to prescribe in respect of 1986–87 for the new joint police and fire and civil defence authorities.
§ Mr. HurdMy proposals for the maximum precept levels of these authorities for 1986–87 are as follows:

Fire and Civil Defence Pence in the £. Greater Manchester 9.09 Merseyside 6.42 South Yorkshire 10.84 Tyne and Wear 10.98 West Midlands 6.17 West Yorkshire 11.20 London 7.50 Formal notification of the proposed maximum precepts has been served on the authorities today. I have asked the authorities to let me know by 15 January whether they accept the proposed maximum precepts.
