§ Mr. WaldenThe Medical Research Council is one of a number of bodies which have royal charters and are sponsored by the Department. The Department's relationship with the council is along the lines set out in the Cabinet Office (MPO) and Her Majesty's Treasury Publication "Non-Departmental Public Bodies: A Guide for Departments", a copy of which is in the Library. Monitoring functions are mainly discharged through the Department's science branch.
