§ 24. Mr. Bruceasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he will make a statement on the future of the Northern Ireland Assembly.
§ Mr. Tom KingThe Assembly's responsibilities are to consider how a widely acceptable Northern Ireland Administration could be formed and, meanwhile, to scrutinise the work of the Northern Ireland Departments. It has suspended its consultative activities and set up a committee to examine the Anglo-Irish Agreement. If this suspension continues for long, questions about the Assembly's continuance will inevitably arise, and it will, in any event, be necessary to review the allocation of staff to it.
