Mr. Fatchett

asked the Paymaster General if he will provide the number and percentage of youth training scheme trainees in the Leeds metropolitan district council area on (a) mode A courses and (b) mode B courses who leave during the first three months of the course.

Mr. Trippier

Of the young people who joined the youth training scheme in Leeds metropolitan district during the financial year 1984–85, 681 mode A trainees (19 per cent.) and 518 mode B trainees (31 per cent.) left during the first three months of their course. These figures must be treated with caution as they will include young people who may have joined and/or left the scheme more than once during the period.
