HC Deb 11 December 1985 vol 88 c690W
21. Mr. Hirst

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the increase in real terms in the funding of the National Health Service in Scotland from 1979 to the latest convenient date ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John MacKay

Gross expenditure on the National Health Service in Scotland has risen from £883 million in 1978–79 to an estimated £2,000 million in 1985–86. In real terms, this represents an increase of over 20 per cent. over the period. Further real terms increases in health spending in each of the next three years are planned.
