HC Deb 11 December 1985 vol 88 cc692-3W
40. Mr. Bill Walker

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what are the arrangements for paying hill livestock compensatory allowances to farmers in Scotland.

Mr. John MacKay

Payment on the 20,000 or so claims for hill livestock compensatory allowances made each year in Scotland normally starts about the end of January and is virtually completed by the end of May. Exceptionally, for 1986, we have decided that, provided farmers submit their claims very quickly after they are issued to them at the end of December, a 75 per cent. payment on their claim will be issued straight away. The balance due to them will be paid after the claim has been checked in the normal way.
