asked the Solicitor-General for Scotland how many cases are currently being pursued by procurators fiscal relating to alleged offences of drunken driving; and if he will make a statement.

Statistics recording the information sought by the hon. Member are not kept. However, provisional figures for 1984 indicate that of 14,976 offences recorded, 14,296 were prosecuted and 13,556 were successfully proved, representing a conviction rate in excess of 90 per cent.
