HC Deb 11 December 1985 vol 88 c691W
26. Mr. Michael Forsyth

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what representations or requests for assistance he has received from Central region following the serious flooding in Bridge of Allan; and if he will introduce legislation to impose on local authorities a duty to provide assistance and take remedial measures when such flooding occurs.

Mr. Ancram

No representations or requests for assistance have been received from Central regional council.

Regional and islands councils may already exercise powers in the Flood Prevention (Scotland) Act 1961 to take measures for the prevention or mitigation of flooding of non-agricultural land in their areas. We have no plans for further legislation.
