HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 c573W
23. Mr. Latham

asked the Prime Minister what steps have been taken by Her Majesty's Government to press for a debate at the General Assembly of the United Nations Organisation regarding the plight of the Baha'i community in Iran.

The Prime Minister

The human rights situation in Iran has just been considered by the third committee of the United Nations General Assembly. The United Kingdom voted for the adoption of a resolution on 6 December which expressed concern at allegations of human rights violations in Iran, urged the Government of Iran to respect their international human rights obligations and decided to consider human rights in Iran, including the situation of minority groups such as the Baha'is, at its next session.
