HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 cc599-600W
30. Mrs. McCurley

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, if he is satisfied with the progress being made in developing community care.

Mr. Whitney

I am reasonably satisfied with the progress made so far. Much has been achieved; but there is still a long way to go before a range of services is available to meet the care needs both of people already in the community and of people still in hospital who could benefit from moving into community care. The Government's response (Cmnd. 9674) to the report from the Social Services Committee on community care, published on 20 November, described the task ahead in the development of community services for mentally handicapped and mentally ill people.
