asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement about the level of parental contributions to the fees of pupils in the assisted places scheme in 1986–87.

Subject to the usual consultations and to parliamentary approval, the parental contribution scales will be adjusted upwards for the school year 1986–87 as follows:

Part of relevant income to which specified percentage applies Only assisted pupil per cent. Each of two assisted pupils per cent. Each of three assisted pupils per cent.
That part which exceeds £6,640 but does not exceed £7,220 9 6.75 5.25
That part (if any) which exceeds £7,220 but does not exceed £7,810 12 9 7
That part (if any) which exceeds £7,810 but does not exceed £8,980 15 11.25 8.75
That part (if any) which exceeds £8,980 but does not exceed £10,780 21 15.75 12.25
That part (if any) which exceeds £10,780 but does not exceed £13,130 24 18 14
