HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 c614W
Mr. Holt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether ambulance drivers have to undergo special training before being allowed to drive ambulances on motorways; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Whitney

Training, including the scope and content of courses, for all health service staff is the responsibility of the National Health Service training authority. Qualified ambulancemen and ambulance women are required to undertake a specific course of ambulance driver training at a recognised regional ambulance training centre but this is concerned with driving the vehicle in all circumstances, not specifically on motorways.
