§ Mr. Ashdownasked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will provide the details of the leakage of coolant gas which occurred at Hinckley Point nuclear installation on 21 November, specifically indicating (a) what the estimated temperature of the gas was when it leaked, (b) whether the gas had been at any time in contact with the reactor, and (c) whether the gas had been, or came into contact with any of the concrete structure at Hinckley Point.
§ Mr. GoodladI am advised by the CEGB that, during the evening of 20 November, a crack in a pump cylinder housing led to a pipe failure in the CO2 plant room which is outside the reactor building. This led to a leakage of clean, unused CO2 which had never been in the reactor cooling circuits. There was no radiation hazard. I am asking the CEGB to write to the Hon. Member on his other points.
