Statistics of the numbers employed in local areas are obtained from censuses of employment taken triennally since 1978 and the latest results are for 1981. Census estimates for constituencies were not compiled for years prior to 1981 but net changes between 1981 and 1984 will become available following publication of the September 1984 census of employment in the spring of 1986.
