§ Mr. Peter BottomleyThe weekly personal allowance paid by the Manpower Services Commission for full-time trainees aged 19 and over, including skillcentre trainees, on the training opportunities scheme and its main successor the job training scheme for each of these years is shown in the table. In addition to the personal allowance, trainees receive a credit of national insurance contributions, a midday meal allowance (or free meal) and assistance towards travel costs over and above the first £4 per week. Further allowances for an adult dependant and a contribution towards the cost of living away from home may be available depending on individual circumstances.
