§ 38. Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will make a statement on his general policy towards policing of inner cities.
§ Mr. Giles ShawThe policing of inner cities is a matter for chief officers. The essential features are that police officers should know the area which they police and understand those whom they serve and protect. Effective consultative procedures and training tailored to the realities in the inner cities are essential if the law is to be upheld and trust is to be maintained between the police and the community.
