§ Mrs. Virginia Bottomleyasked the Minister for the Civil Service what steps he is taking to implement section 79 of the United Nations Nairobi conference on forward-looking strategies for women, which states that Governments should take all appropriate measures to ensure for women, on equal terms with men and without discrimination, the opportunity to represent their Governments at all levels on delegations to sub-regional, regional and international meetings.
§ Mr. LuceThe appointment of representatives of Her Majesty's Government to overseas delegations and meetings is a matter for Ministers with responsibility for those delegations or the subject matter of the meetings in question. As far as my responsibilities go, the Government's equal opportunity policy toward civil servants applies as much to such appointments as to other public service appointments.
