HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 cc140-1W
Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is the incidence of cases of respiratory and non-respiratory tuberculosis, as taken together, per 100,000 population, reported in each standard region of the United Kingdom in each of the last five years; and what was the comparable figure for England and Wales.

Mr. Whitney

The information is given in the table. The systems of notification of tuberculosis differ slightly in the constituent parts of the United Kingdom, and the figures are not exactly comparable year by year.

Dr. David Clark

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many cases of (a) respiratory and (b) non-respiratory tuberculosis have been reported in England and Wales in each of the last five years; and what are the figures for South Tyneside.

Mr. Whitney

The numbers of notifications of respiratory and of other forms of tuberculosis for England and Wales, and for South Tyneside are given in the table. Figures from 1982 exclude notifications associated with chemoprophylaxis. Other changes mean that the figures are not exactly comparable year by year, but the effect is thought to be minimal.
