HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 c13W
Mr. Freud

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the basis upon which his Department calculated the numbers and proportion of children statemented under the Education Act 1981 as having special educational needs in each local education authority, as published in his reply to the hon. Member for Cambridgeshire, North-East on 13 June, Official Report, columns 514–8.

Mr. Dunn

The numbers and proportions of children statemented under the Education Act 1981 as having special educational needs, in each local authority in England in 1984, were derived from returns submitted by schools to the Department in January 1984 as part of the annual census of schools.
