Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what is (a) the income received and (b) the administrative cost resulting from charges on overseas visitors using National Health Service facilities for each district health authority, regional health authority, and in total, for each year since the charges were introduced.

Mr. Hayhoe

The income from National Health Service hospital treatment for each year since the NHS (Overseas Visitors) Regulations came into operation on 1 October 1982 is set out in the following table.

The administrative costs associated with the collection of income are not separately identifiable.
