asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he is satisfied with measures presently in force to signpost lane restrictions and hazards on motorways; and if he will make a statement.

I have recently reviewed the arrangements for the signing and management of roadworks on both motorways and all-purpose trunk roads. New guidance was issued to the Department's agent authorities on 14 November. A copy of the relevant trunk road management and maintenance notice (TRMM/9/85) is in the Library. We shall continue to monitor the arrangements.
