HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 c4W
Mr. Sheerman

asked the Prime Minister on what evidence she bases her statement in the Official Report, 6 November, column 22, that 675,000 new jobs have been created in the past two years; if she will give a breakdown in numbers and percentages according to (a) region, (b) industrial sector, (c) gender, (d) full or part time and (e) employed or self-employed; and if she will indicate which figures are estimated and which are based on recorded information.

The Prime Minister

There was an estimated increase of 675,000 in the employed labour force in Great Britain between March 1983 and June 1985 as published in the October issue ofEmployment Gazette. I have asked my right hon. and learned Friend the Paymaster General to provide the hon. Member with the latest available breakdowns of the estimate, which has since been slightly revised. All these estimates will be further revised when the results of the 1984 census of employment and the 1985 labour force survey become available in the spring of next year.
