Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will show for each English county (a) the estimated highway capital expenditure in 1985–86, (b) the planned highway capital expenditure in 1986–87, (c) the proportion of planned expenditure in 1986–87 that is eligible for transport supplementary grant, (d) the highway structural maintenance expenditure in 1984–85, (e) the highway routine maintenance expenditure in 1984–85, (f) the estimated highway structural maintenance expenditure in 1985–86 and (g) the estimated highway routine maintenance expenditure in 1985–86.

This information, taken from local authorities' transport policies and programmes, is given in the following tables.

Columns (a) and (b) Show counties estimates of all their expenditure on highways, traffic regulation, the provision of parking places, and on depots, vehicles plant and machinery associated with their highway responsibilities. Information is from 1986–87 TPPs.

Column (c) Shows counties' estimates of all their expenditure on highways and the regulation of traffic, all of which is eligible for TSG. The amount of this estimated expenditure which I accept for TSG will be shown in the TSG settlement for 1986–87 which is expected to be announced before Christmas.

asked the Secretary of State for Transport when he expects to publish his full response to the National Economic Development Organisation civil engineering report entitled, "A Fairer and Faster Route to Major Road Construction."
