§ Mr. Bestasked the Secretary of State for Wales what support is given by his Department and the European commission to goat farmers.
§ Mr. Nicholas EdwardsGrant aid is available under the agriculture improvement scheme for goat farmers who have an approved improvement plan. The scheme implements EC regulation 797/85. Grant is available on most types of farm improvement and rates vary from 15 per cent. in the lowland to 60 per cent. in the less favoured area.
Member states are free under Community regulations to pay hill livestock compensatory allowances on goats, but the United Kingdom restricts payment of these allowances to sheep and meat producing cows.
