Mr. Simon Hughes

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list those bodies to which his Department makes appointments, the number of appointees and the number of these who are women.

The Secretary of State for the Environment makes appointments to the bodies listed in this Department's entry in the HMSO publication "Public Bodies 1984"—a copy of which is in the Library and which gives information on membership — with the following exceptions:

  • Council for Small Industries in Rural Areas
  • Commons Commissioners
  • Development Commission
  • Local Valuation Panels for England
  • National Heritage Memorial Fund
  • Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution
  • Royal Commission on Historical Monuments
  • Royal Fine Art Commission

The Commission on Energy and the Environment has now been wound up.

In addition, he makes appointments to:
