Mr. Ron Brownasked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many police officers in Scotland were dismissed for misconduct during 1980, 1981, 1982, 1983 and 1984, respectively; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. AncramIn these years, nine police officers were dismissed and 29 were required to resign as an alternative to dismissal, having been found guilty of disciplinary offences as set out in schedule 1 to the Police (Discipline) (Scotland) Regulations 1967. These figures include seven officers who were later reinstated on appeal to the Secretary of State. The figures for each year are as follows:
