HC Deb 30 April 1985 vol 78 cc118-9W
16. Mr. Andrew F. Bennett

asked the Secretary of State for Defence how many complaints he has received about American military personnel handcuffing British citizens at Greenham common.

Mr. Stanley

I am not aware of any such formal complaints having been received by my Department.

19. Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he is satisfied with the amenities provided for British forces guarding the base at Greenham Common.

Mr. Stanley

The conditions and amenities for the personnel at RAF Greenham Common are generally satisfactory. Personnel permanently stationed there are accommodated in quarters of the normal standard and have access to many of the US amenities on the base, including sports and recreational facilities. Those on short-term postings are housed in temporary accommodation of a reasonable standard. They have a range of amenities available to them as well as access to certain of the US facilities such as the gymnasium.
