§ Mr. Hargreavesasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is the total estimated amount of tax relief granted in respect of loans for the improvement of a person's main residence for each of the last 10 years.
§ Mr. Moore[pursuant to his reply, 16 April 1985, c. 155]: It is not possible to provide precise figures, but it is 63W estimated that between 5 and 10 per cent. of the total cost of mortgage interest relief is currently in respect of further loans for the improvement of a person's main residence.
