Mr. Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many men on Merseyside who have been unemployed for over 12 months have been accepted for full-time training by the Manpower Services Commission in the last year.

Mr. Peter Morrison

Some 570 men who had been unemployed for over 12 months have been accepted for full-time training by the Manpower Services Commission in the last year.

In addition, some long-term unemployed people, including some 700 in temporary jobs under the community programme, will be undertaking part-time training.
