§ Mrs. Renée Shortasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will list the numbers of university postgraduate courses which had a reduction in their bursary allocations in each single year since the 1978–79 academic session and those whose grants have been totally abolished during the same period.
§ Mr. BrookeAllocations of bursaries to universities and other postgraduate institutions by the Department were reduced in 1981–82 in respect of 30 courses included in the state bursary scheme. In the years prior to that year and in subsequent years no significant reductions in the allocations occurred. Since 1978–79 the allocation of bursaries for three courses have been withdrawn: the bursaries released were reallocated to other courses.
