§ The Prime MinisterThe Argentine Government could take a major step towards the normalisation of our bilateral relations by agreeing to the reciprocal lifting of 285W the trade embargo. We have made a number of proposals, both bilaterally and through the European Community, to achieve this. Argentine Government have not yet responded constructively.
§ Mr. Hoyleasked the Prime Minister what representations Her Majesty's Government have received from James Fairclough Ltd. of Warrington, about the effect of trade sanctions against Argentina on its ability to import the high grade maize required for its products.
§ The Prime MinisterThe Government have received representations from Allied Mills Ltd.—of which James Fairclough and Sons is a subsidiary—as well as from two hon. Members and a member of the public. They have been advised that we cannot make an exemption for Argentine maize from the general embargo on imports from Argentina without undermining its effectiveness.
