§ Mr. David MitchellThe Coastguard's manpower strength at 1 April 1985 was 568. The planned figure for 1 April 1986 is the same. I have no current plans for further changes. Naturally the manpower levels for subsequent years will have to be considered in the context of the Government's overall objectives for Civil Service manpower; but it will be my aim to ensure that the Coastguard's operational capability remains at its present level.
