HC Deb 18 April 1985 vol 77 c265W
Mr. Hayes

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list the social security benefits for which take-up has proved higher than expected.

Mr. Newton

It is not possible at this stage to separate out with precision the effect of increased take-up from other factors influencing increased expenditure on social security benefits in such areas as invalidity benefit, housing benefit and supplementary benefit for board and lodging (including residential care and nursing homes). However the number of people claiming mobility allowance, attendance allowance and severe disablement allowance has proved consistently higher than expected.
