HC Deb 18 April 1985 vol 77 cc258-9W
Mr. Teddy Taylor

asked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on the outcome of her official visit to Malaysia.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Prime Minister if she will make a statement on her recent visit to Asian countries.

The Prime Minister

I refer my hon. Friend and the hon. Gentleman to the reply that I gave to the hon. Member for Liverpool, Riverside (Mr. Parry) on 16 April 1985, at columns133–4.

Mr. Wareing

asked the Prime Minister what discussions she had with leaders of the Tamil minority during her recent visit to Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister

During my visit to Sri Lanka I met several representatives of the Tamil community, including some holding ministerial and other Government positions, and a leader of the Tamil United Liberation Front, the former Member of Parliament, Dr. Tiruchelvam, with whom I had wide-ranging talks about the inter-communal problem.

Mr. Gordon Brown

asked the Prime Minister if she will list the contracts successfully negotiated for Britain during her trip to the Far East and Saudi Arabia.

The Prime Minister

Gaining business in the very competitive ASEAN market needs persistence, a continuing presence, and products at the right price and quality. Many British companies are active in the countries that I visited, and I was able to support their efforts by underlining in my talks the strength of our industry particularly in biotechnology, communications, transportation, water schemes and aerospace. I am hopeful that my own talks and the development of closer bilateral relations in future will lead to greater success for our companies.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Prime Minister if she will list the Ministers who accompanied her during her visits in south-east Asia.

The Prime Minister

None.
