asked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will make a statement on the Government's response to the main proposals in the report of the Scottish Affairs Committee on the Highlands and Islands Development Board.

Mr. John MacKay

The recommendations made by the Committee are being given careful consideration by Ministers and the Highlands and Islands Development Board. The Government's views will be made known in due course.
