HC Deb 17 April 1985 vol 77 c202W
Mr. Hancock

asked the Secretary of State for Defence if he will give details of representations made to him with regard to the siting of the Combined Services School of Music at Portsmouth.

Mr. Lee

Approaches were made by my right hon. and learned Friend, the Member for Dover (Mr. Rees) and my hon. Friend the Member for Twickenham (Mr. Jessel), both expressing constituency interests. Two other Members asked for information relating to the choice of Deal. Portsmouth city council expressed disappointment at our choice and inquired about the future of the Royal Marines establishment at Eastney. A member of the general public wrote to protest at the decision to locate the Defence School of Music at Deal. An Adjournment debate on the subject took place on 29 March 1985.

We have also received a number of representations about the closure of Kneller Hall, and an Adjournment debate on that subject took place on 25 October 1983.
