§ Mr. Whiteasked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will publish in the Official Report a table showing the total administrative cost of each regional health authority in the last year to a convenient date, including the amounts for expenses and remuneration of chairmen and committees, the number of staff and the total of salaries and wages paid, the cost of rent and equipment, and all other significant items of expenditure.
§ Mr. Kenneth Clarke[pursuant to his reply, 14 March 1985, c. 242]: The table shows current expenditure on the administration of their own headquarters by each regional health authority in 1983–84. This is, of course, not the total cost of administration within a region as we could not produce figures for the administrative costs of all the districts, units and hospitals without disproportionate effect and expense.

Statistics on the numbers of staff employed are also not broken down in this way.
