§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what arrangements are made to log the work of civil servants undertaken outside his Department.
§ Sir George Young[pursuant to his reply, 4 April 1985, c. 760]: Staff require Departmental permission for outside activities which do not meet conditions relating to conflict of interests etc. These are set down in the Departmental staff rules and are, in turn, derived from the Civil Service pay and conditions of service code. All applications (and enquiries in cases where there are doubts) are dealt with centrally and are recorded.
