§ Mr. Kilfedderasked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he expects to introduce legislation to extend the scope of the remit of the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights to include a broader range of human rights issues.
§ Mr. HurdAny change in the statutory remit of the Standing Advisory Commission on Human Rights will require amendment of the Northern Ireland Constitution Act 1973. I cannot at present say when such legislation is likely to be introduced. I recognised the commission's wider role in the field of human rights generally in Northern Ireland in my response to the commission's tenth annual report, a copy of which was placed in the Library on 21 February 1985.
