asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what is his estimate of the value of agricultural land, including buildings, in the United Kingdom; and how this figure compares with the figure for 1970.

The following table gives the average prices of land (and buildings), for each country in the United Kingdom by type of tenure, in 1970 and 1983; estimates are shown for 1984. Information on the price of land (and buildings) is collected on a continuous basis by the Inland Revenue.
