§ Mr. Strangasked the Secretary of State for Energy (1) if he will set out the safeguard arrangements which will cover the nuclear material in the blanket of the Superphenix fast breeder reactor;
(2) whether the French Government have made a declaration to Euratom under articles 77 and 84 of the Euratom treaty, as to the status of the Superphenix reactor with regard to civil or military use of the products.
§ Mr. GoodladI understand that the operator of the plant (NERSA) has declared to the Commission that the purpose of Superphenix is to generate electricity, and that the materials used in the reactor are entirely subject to Euratom supervision.
