§ Mr. Alexanderasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he is satisfied with the communication links between British universities and industry in order to ensure that the universities provide enough graduates with the skills required by industry.
§ Sir Keith JosephThe Government have encouraged and has provided support for the establishment of closer links between industry and all levels of education. However, there remains scope for both sides to make such links a more effective channel for information on industry's manpower requirements.
In recent years the Government has taken a number of initiatives to increase graduate places in shortage areas.
