§ Mr. Redmondasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent action Her Majesty's Government have taken through international forums to seek to bring about a settlement of the conflict between Iran and Iraq.
§ Mr. RifkindWe have supported all the relevant Security Council resolutions and the efforts of the United Nations Secretary-General aimed at ending this tragic conflict. We supported the Secretary-General's appeal of 26 March, calling for both sides to stop attacks on civilian areas and merchant shipping, for an end to the threat to civil aviation and condemning the use of chemical weapons. In addition, we have participated in demarches with our Community partners in both Tehran and Baghdad calling on both sides to respond to United Nations appeals.
