HC Deb 01 April 1985 vol 76 c450W
Dame Judith Hart

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent protest he has made to the President of Pakistan about the abuse of human rights there and, in particular, about the case of Bashiran Begum.

Mr. Renton

We have not recently raised human rights issues with President Zia personally, but he can be in no doubt about the strength of our views concerning violations of human rights wherever they may occur. We have made our views clear to the Pakistan authorities on several occasions in recent months.

We are not familiar with the case of Bashiran Begum, but would welcome further information from the right hon. Lady.
