HC Deb 01 April 1985 vol 76 c481W
Mr. Clifford Forsythe

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland what is the current position regarding the repair and upkeep of Orlit houses currently in Housing Executive ownership.

Mr. Chris Patten

[pursuant to his reply, 25 March 1985. c. 34]: I am informed by the chairman of the Housing Executive that assessments of the structural condition of Orlit dwellings have now been completed. The minimum life expectancy is estimated at five to 10 years while the majority of Orlits have a life expectancy of 10 to 15 or 15 to 30 years. Proposals for replacements or improvement as appropriate are being drawn up by the Housing Executive in consultations with tenants and public representatives. In the meantime a response maintenance service is being provided for all the Housing Executive's groups of Orlit properties.
