HC Deb 01 April 1985 vol 76 c459W
20. Mr. Phillip Oppenheim

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what plans he has for the further development of nuclear power.

Mr. Goodlad

The Government continue to attach importance to the safe and economic development of nuclear power.

22. Mr. John Mark Taylor

asked the Secretary of State for Energy when he next plans to meet the chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board to discuss the future development of nuclear power.

Mr. Goodlad

My right hon. Friend regularly meets the chairman of the Central Electricity Generating Board to discuss matters of common interest.

Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will direct the Central Electricity Generating Board that nuclear power stations should be operated economically so as to minimise subsidies from the taxpayers.

Mr. Goodlad

The CEGB's nuclear power stations produce the cheapest electricity available to the grid. The question of subsidies does not arise.
