§ Mr. Fisherasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what proposals he has to increase the proportion of graduate teachers in schools.
§ Mr. DunnThe Government's policy is to move as quickly as possible towards an all-graduate teaching profession. Since 1980, with a limited number of exceptions, entry to initial teacher training has been through courses which are either designed for graduates on entry or lead to degree level qualifications. As a result, all new entrants to the teaching profession are now normally graduates. The Government commend the efforts made by many serving teachers who trained on non-graduate certificate courses to obtain in-service bachelor of education qualifications.
