HC Deb 01 April 1985 vol 76 c455W
Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many extra enterprise allowance schemes there will be consequent upon the Budget; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. John Stradling Thomas

My right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Employment announced on 12 November that he intended to increase the enterprise allowance scheme by 25 per cent. to make it possible for up to 1,250 people a week nationally to join the scheme. This expansion was confirmed in the recent Budget Statement.

In Wales provision has been made for about 78 places to be available per week for the year 1 April 1985 to 31 March 1986. This figure compares with a figure of about 58 places a week in the year up to 31 March 1985.
