§ Mr. David HuntIn January 1985, the last month for which figures are available, nearly 700,000 tonnes of coking coal were imported into the United Kingdom, mainly from suppliers in the USA and Australia, at an average value of around £49 per tonne. The general strengthening of the US dollar against other currencies put downward pressure on dollar prices as well as increasing the sterling price for any given dollar price.
